Owner Dan Merritt explained, “People have great intentions and earmark many household items to donate to local charities – they just don’t always have the time or resources to make it happen.” The four owners of Northern Trends decided to help their customers and donate time and the Northern Trends trucks and vans and offer to pick up items from their current clients. “We sent out a postcard and asked our clients to RSVP if they wanted to participate in this great event,” said owner Dave Nelson, “they just need to have items waiting and we’ll pick them up.”
The Salvation Army supplied a list of items that can and cannot be donated. According to Jill Buchholz, Executive Administrative Assistant for the Salvation Army, “We are given many items that we cannot pass on to our clients; we are then given the responsibility and cost of disposing of them. Northern Trends has communicated this with their clients and we are very grateful to them for their time and resources for the Community Give Back Day program.”
